Umar is currently the Managing Director/CEO of Jigawa Savings and Loans Limited. He graduated from Kaduna Polytechnic in 1989 and served his one year youth service with Tropical Commercial Bank Limited from 1989 to 1990. Umar Holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Bayero University, Kano with Specialization in Finance. He joined Tropical Commercial Bank Limited in 1990 and moved to the then Equitorial Trust Bank Limited, Kano Branch in 1991 as Assistant Banking Officer. In 1996 Umar joined Ecobank Nigeria as Banking Officer and rose to the position of Assistant Manager. In the year 2000, Umar joined the new Savannah Bank as a full Manager. In the year 2003, he moved to International Merchant Bank (IMB), Plc until when the bank merged with First Atlantic Bank Limited and others during the 2005 Bank ing consolidation, to become First Inland Bank Plc. Mr. Umar became the Regional Manager Kano 2 Region and later he became the Senior Business Executive of Fin Bank Plc, Kano Region, until in the year 2010 when he voluntarily resigned his appointment with Fin Bank and set up his private business dealing in commodities export.Umar was later in 2011 approached by the Board of Jigawa Savings and Loans Limited to join the bank as Managing Director/CEO, so as to help in the recapitalization process of the bank. In July 2011, Umar took up appointment and became the MD/CEO of Jigawa Savings and Loans Limited, the position he is still holding.
Umar attended several executive management trainings in Banking and Finance, Mortgage Finance and Strategic Alliance/Mergers and acquisition at home and abroad. He attended Executive Management Program organized by Kellog’s School of Management, North Western University, Chicago Illinois.
Umar is a passionate golfer and is a member of IBB International golf and country club, Abuja; Kano golf Club and Dutse Royal golf course. He is a member of several professional bodies and is married with children.
